Samuel Sage of Athens, Ohio NOT related to James Sage of Virginia
Hi to all you Sage researchers:
Two descendants of James Sage of Grayson, Virginia have completed DNA testing and find that while the two of them are a 27/27 match in yDNA, they do not match the yDNA markers of a descendant of Samuel Sage of Athens, Ohio.
Two points come out of this:more descendants from all lines need to participate in yDNA testing, hopefully, as part of the Sage project at FTDNA.One descendant, especially over four and five generations, is not enough---- sometimes who you think is your daddy, is not your daddy. A second descendant from another branch of the same line, at least, could more conclusively prove or disprove relationships, such as between Samuel and James.
The other point is----all of us who descend from Samuel Sage of Athens, Ohio need to stop looking to James Sage of Grayson, and start looking in other areas to find Samuel's origins.
For the general Sage Project at FTDNA, we still need representatives from David Sage of Wales, John and William Sage of Virginia/Kentucky/Indiana, Samuel Sage of Kansas, and the Sage line from Shenango, Pennsylvania.Families can choose one representative who is a direct descendant male, and share the cost of testing, as DNA tests can be pricey. What a difference it makes, however, to know the truth. And, if you've paid for documents from county archives, or traveled distances to research, you know how costly that can be and it puts the cost of yDNA testing into perspective.
The Sage Project at FTDNA will soon have a website, hopefully, where we can post results from each line.
