Brent,

I'm looking for a Valentine SaUfley born about that time, or maybe in the next generation. Maybe your Valentine's son? Your mention of Rockingham County, Virginia is almost too coincidental! Rockingham County was fairly crawling with Saufleys at one time in the 1800s and maybe to this day. "Our" Valentine had at least two children we know for sure are in our line: George Saufley (birthdate unknown) and Sophia Saufley Showalter, born 1779 married to Jacob Showalter with sixteen children. I heard from someone of a Valentine Saufley with a daughter Catherine, born in Pennsylvania in 1766. That could also be "our" guy, but your Rockingham fellow sounds closer to home! My 3x great-grandfather William Saufley was born near Harrisonburg, Va. in 1808 in Rockingham County. His parents were George and Anne Seevely Saufley and his grandfather Valentine.

I think SAFLEY/SAUFLEY must be the same name. Do you have any clues as to nationality? Good luck in your search---let me know please if you turn up anything!

Cindee (mother was a Saufley)
