As always. I appreciate the leads and the wealth of information you have given. What is the source you found identifying James as the 7th cild of Robert and Isabel Gilmore Safley?I find Robert Safley m. Isabel GILMOR 23 September 1796 in Cockpen, Midlothian, Scotland. At the christening of children William (17 July 1797), Agnes (17 April 1799), Mary (26 April 1801), Thomas (1 May 1803), Janet (10 March 1805) & John (28 July 1807), Isabel's name is given as GILMOUR.I do not find James or another 2 children.
I find a Robert Safley (chr. 13 Dec 1761), William (chr. 30 Dec 1759) and James (chr. 11 March 1764) in Temple, Midlothian, Scotland; as well as John Safley (chr. 18 May 1766) in Cockpen; all sons of William Safley and Mary Weir. When they were married on 9 March 1758 in Temple, William's surname was given as SAPHLIE.
Does any of this match what you have?Do you have it further back than William & Mary?Do you know where Robert & Isabel's son James and the other two siblings were born?
Are you interested in (or have info on) the GILMOR/GILMOUR or WEIR lines?
