Hi Saffolds,
I've acquired a copy of R.C.'s will. In the document, he acknowledged that he raped and shot an Isabella DOWDLE. He expressed regret for the incident and left his property to the woman. Apparently, a son named Willie was conceived at that time. He frightened Isabella into silence and fled Harrison County, MS for a time. The community assumed that Isabella was a loose woman and she suffered great shame. The will also refers to a brother, William, and a sister Bettie m. PECKINGPAUGH. If you have any info about these people or about Margaret Catherine "Kate" Bellew, the presumed mother of four of R.C.'s children,I sure would like to hear from you. (Please see previous queries.)
