researching family

I was born in 1959 and placed for adoption.
I have very vague information.
My grandfather was born in 1909 and was a shipper.
He came to Canada from England at the age of 4 and was the 8th of 9 children.
My grandmother was born in 1922 and was also of English origin.
My mother was born in 1940 and uncle in 1943 who was crippled since birth.
This is all I have and I am not even sure of the correct spelling of my surname.
If anything sounds familiar please let me know.
Thanks
