I am searching for information about J.(probably Joseph)SACHS and his wife Helena (Helen) SMOLJAN, whose daughter, Anna (Annie), was born in Rujen, Latvia abt. 1880. Annie may have had a twin sibling. Joseph was born in Latvia. Helena was probably from Germany. Annie arrived in America in 1908 (Ellis Island records) where she initially lived with an uncle named Smoljan (SMULYAN) at 33 Union in Manhattan. Also among Joseph and Helena's children was my grandmother, Jeanette (Jenny) Sachs, who united with Annie at 33 Union abt. 1912-13. Jeanette was born abt. 1890 and, as a young lady, fled her home in Latvia under threat of arrest because of her participation in a Zionist/Bundist group. She used false documents probably using the name of a deceased friend, Janet COCKS. She entered the U.S.either through Boston or New Bedford rather than Ellis Island. Both Annie and Jenny were settled in Califonia by 1915. Annie lived with her husband, Abe FRIEDMANN, in Santa Rosa until her death in 1950. Jenny was married to a man named John S. FABISAK and then to John MATHIAS for the last forty years of her life. She died in 1973 in San Diego.
