C RYMAN 1888 in Portsmouth, Hampshire
On the death certificate of my great-great-grandfather, William Harrison (who died 24 May 1888 at 3 Victoria Street, Forton, USD), the informant, present at the death was named as 'C. Ryman, Grandson, Florence Cottage, Upper Mill Lane, Elson'. However, before I obtained the death certificate, I had not heard of C. Ryman! so don't know his parentage! He is an enigma, so I want to find out how he fits into my family. He is not at that address on the 1881 census. He is not on the 1891 census at that address either. However, someone has found some 'C. RYMAN's on the 1881 census, and having searched through them, I wouldn't be surprised if the right one is:
I.C.J. RYMAN U 21 M Madras British Subject, India
Occ: Corporal R M L I
Institution: "Royal Marine Barracks" Forton
Census Place: Alverstoke, Hampshire, England
because my great-great-grandfather was, at one time, based at the Royal Marine Barracks at Forton.
If anyone can help, it would be wonderful!
Thanks for reading this.
Joy (Dean nee Brooks ... Harrison)
