Looking for descendants of Peter (Rierson) Ryerson who was living in Maugerville, NB, by January 1788. According to Rev. John Beardsley's baptismal records of the Maugerville and area Parish in Sunbury County, NB, a WILLIAM RYER was baptised on August 5th 1789. I beleive this child was the son of Peter Ryerson, and his wife Sarah Allison, who also spelt thier name as Rierson. Peter Ryerson was born on Long Island about 1749, and was the son of George Rierson and Sarah Teveau. (Pg 61 & 332 A.W. Ryerson book) Peter and his brother Cornelius were Loyalists who fled to Nova Scotia, settling in Digby by May of 1784. Peter received land on the Botsford Grant in Digby, but didn't stay in Nova Scotia long. About 1786 he married to Sarah Allison in Newfoundland, NJ, and by January 1788 Peter is in Maugerville, NB, witnessing the sale of land there. The next record of Peter in the baptismal records is when his servant, Peter Broadstreet, was baptised in Sept 1788. Peter had two daughters, both named Sarah, baptised in Maugerville in 1789 and 1790. The daughter, Sarah Clowe Ryerson, baptised on Dec 26 1790, probably grew to adulthood. I think that Peter and his family may have lived in Maugerville for a time, and then removed up the St. Lawrence River, settling in Prince Edward County, Ontario. I beleive the son, William Ryerson, lived in the Picton area, and he had sons who lived in the Belleville and Trenton area. What I'm hoping to find is anybody out there who may have come across Peter and his family in New Brunswick Land Records, Church Records, Cemetaries, Census Records, Military Records or Loyalist Claims. It's interesting that Peter lived in the same area as Col. Samuel Ryerse and Col. Joseph Ryerson, my ancester. Thanks in advance!
