It looks like there's proof that Hampton Ryan is not the father of Peter C. Ryan. Look at this message:

The will lists "the surviving children and descendants of Hampton Ryan." Peter is not mentioned, and since presumably he was alive in 1870, and since the will does not mention Peter's children who were definitely alive, it's a safe bet that Peter is not the son of Hampton.
The only reason that Hampton might not have listed Peter C. is if he had disowned him. Hard to know. However, given the proven connections between Richard C. and Peter C., I think it's more likely they were brothers or father/son or cousins.
P.S. I can't find my notes saying that Richard C. was buried in Montevallo. Maybe i was mistaken. However, the 1880 Mortality Schedule DOES list him. Please let me know how your trip to Ryan goes. Thanks.
