"There is reference to a monastic site from the 6th century at Kilconry but the present church on the site dates to the 15th century church. The present day parishes of Newmarket-on-Fergus and Shannon were originally divided into seven parishes when the diocesan system was finally introduced into Ireland in the 12th century: Kilconry, Kilmaleery, Kilnasoolagh, Clonloghan, Drumline, Bunratty."
