Is anyone researching the Rutherford County, Tennessee Ryans from about 1815 through mid-Century?
It seems to me that Joseph Ryan was born about 1775 in either Virginia or Georgia. The 1820 census also includes two Reuben Ryans, one of which married Rachel Harper and apparently died in the 1830s. I'm not sure what happened to the other, though I'm thinking he may be the one that turns up in Lawrence County, Mississippi on the 1830 census.
I ask because I believe this Ryan family is connected to my Ryan family, which lived in North Carolina (Orange County) in the 1750s and 1760s, moved to Georgia about 1770, and then turns up Preble County, Ohio about 1808.
My Richard Ryan, along with his son Richard Jr., left Indiana in 1837 to go to Williamson County, Tennessee. Richard Sr. died there in 1839, while Richard Jr. moved on to Shelby County, Texas after a short stay in Tennessee. Richard Sr. also had a son named Reuben, which is a rather unusual name to go with Ryan. We've wondered why they went to Williamson County, and do not believe it is a coincidence that there was a Ryan family with two Reubens there.
Besides the name Reuben and the Williamson County connection, there are some other connections that lead me to connect my Ryans with the Rutherford County Ryans. I'd would love to correspond with someone researching this family.
