Hi Patricia,
This is all very exciting. Hopefully is the right links for both our families.
It seems rather strange the number of spellings for Nellie/ Ellen if it is the same family. The record you have found for Catherine is the same as the birth certificate I have.
My grandmother has remembered more Catherine Ryan was sent to an orphanage after her mother's death and we don't know what happed to the brothers. In any case she was more or less raised in the orphanage until the legal age of release. The archives probably have records of her stay in the orphanage. Her brothers could have possible been in there too.
Then Catherine was sent to a well off aunt who rejected her and finally found herself at the Desmond's.The aunt (she presumes on her father's side)was a widow with 2 sons (we are looking at apprx 1892-1894). I would assume this is when Henry got sick.
My grandmother recalls that Daniel was in the miltary service so his records might be at the archives.
Its a Australia Day holiday weekend this week so all the archives are closed for the weekend. I will head to the archives they hold at the family history centre next week to check up on the Ryan/ Menix connection.
Another question are Somerville and Chelsea close in distance to each other?
Now that we have find out quite alot about the possible family link, it might be better to leave the message board for privacy reasons for the both of us. My direct email is [email protected]
If after consulting all the archives again. I will email you my family tree.
Speak to you soon
Nina
