Thankyou again Carol, My Ryan's appeared in the 1881 census for Darlington. My Great Grandfather John Ryan born in Ireland was married in Darlington in 1873 he was 26 years old at his marriage. The first Ryan for me to find born in England was Micheal Ryan. My Great Grandfather's brother. He says in the 1881 census that he was born in Lan Manchester. He would have been born in 1853. My Great Great grandfather was Patrick Ryan and the Father of John and Micheal. The only Micheal Ryan I can find in the free BMD search was born in Liverpool which I think in 1853 was in Lancashire as was Manchester. They would have left Lancashire before 1873.On the wedding certificate of 1873 it says that Patrick was deceased. If I can find them in the 1851 census it would be useful. I suspect that Patrick had other children who did not travel north to Darlington as they do not appear in the 1881 census. So when I manage to get a search of the 1851 census I would be able to track any family members left behind in the 1891 census. My Grandfather John Ryan was born in 1881 in Darlington. He was only two months old when the census was taken. My ultimate aim is to try and trace where abouts in Ireland they came from.My Grand father John Ryan although born in Darlington, travelled south to Preston on August 27th 1898 I have a silver cup that he won in a race on that date. This also makes me think that other family members stayed behind in Lancashire. It is just coincidence that I now live near Preston. I was born in Nottingham. That is the town my father came from and my parents settled in after WW2. Thankyou again Carol I will be in touch if I get further information. Regards Jacqui White
