Owen Molloy and Annie Ryan
I am writing a history of the Molloys and McAuleys of Roshin South, County Donegal, who came to the US and settled in Bayonne, N.J. between 1885 and 1890. Neal Molloy (c1840-1893), a fiddler and farmer, and his wife, Grace McAuley (c1840-1904), a school marm, lived in the townland of Roshin South, near Dungloe. This was the McAuley townland, Grace's parents being Owen and Bridget. Bridget, a widow, died in 1869. I suspect that Neal Molloy may have come from Arranmore, as Neal's father was said to have been named John, and only Johns listed in Griffith's Valuation are all on Arranmore. Neal & Grace had the following children: Patrick (c1862-1891); Mary (c1863-1899); Owen (1864-1944); John (1866-1883); Neal (1870-1938); Anne (1872-1888); and Charles, my grandfather (1874-1916). Neal and Grace and all their children except John and
Anne came to the United States and settled in Bayonne, N.J. Patrick married Catherine Gallagher and they had four children, two of whom, Susan and Catherine, survived infancy; Mary married Robert J. Carter of Cambridge, England and had four children, two of whom, Patrick Joseph and Charles, survived infancy; Owen, also known as Eugene Owen, married Annie Ryan, daughter of Michael and Margaret Ryan of Ireland. Annie died in 1903 at the age of 27.Annie and Owen adopted a child during their marriage: Eugene, born around 1897. After Annie's death, Owen married Mary Agnes Westerman, daughter of Joseph Westerman (of Penns.) and Grace McShea (of Donegal) and they had one son, Joseph; Neal married Bridget Sharkey of Mill Town, Co. Donegal. Bridget was the daughter of John Sharkey and Mary O'Donnell. She had a brother named Michael. She and Neal had eight children: Cornelius, Mary, Annie, Grace, John, Patrick, Bernard and Vincent; and Charles married Margaret Mooney and had seven children: Cornelius, Andrew, Charles (my father), William, Eugene, Hugh and Mary.
There are still many Molloy descendents in Bayonne and N.J.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone with any links to our family or any information about individual members. I would be happy to share my research work and history with all interested Ryans and Molloys or other related families.
