David A. Avery Author " The Ancestors and Descendants of John Gunton and Eliza Jarvis, Mika Publishing Company, Belleville, Ontario.. 1982 Two pages 156 and 157.(I can scan these pages for you if you do not have the book).
The 1851 Census and David A. Avery's Book plus a combined research by two genealogists equalying 60 years are the sources of the below information.
Isaac Jarvis and Effalina (Rutledge?) are found in the 1800 and 1810 census in Huntington, Suffolk County, NY.The children
1800 Census
1 male under 10
1 male 26-44
1 female under 10
1 female 26-44
1810 Census
1. son
2. Daughter
3. son
4. Isaiah Jarvis 1803-1877
5. daughter:Mary Ann Jarvis 1807-1863
In 1851 Census in North Townsend township we find Isaah and Effalina and listed with them are Hannah and David Beal and a son Homer. It also says that David and Hannahare residents of Wisconsin but not Homer.Maybe Effalina and Isaac were watching the baby while Hannah and David were establishing themselves in the US.(Family lore says that Isaac and Effalina went to Wisconsin and were buried on what is now a turkey farm but the graves were never found.)Thisis the census in 1850 in Summit, Waukeshu, WI
David Beal 24
H E Beal 21
Homer Beal 2
Jno Reid 24 (1st cousin of David)
Stephen Schermerhorn 16 (Farm Labor) No Relation
1851 Townsend, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada again...
Just a couple of doors down we have Levart Beal and Mary A. with her son Edward from her first marriage and Oliver and Alexander, Levart's youngest sons from his third wife.
Years ago I called David A. Avery and talked with him about the misreading of the census and sent him the corrected material.Linda S and I have been working on genealogy for a combined amount of 60 years.DNA on the Smith family is well under way, but of course that is just Linda and my lines... I am a 2nd great grandson of Hannah Eliza (Smith) Beal and Linda S. is a 2nd great granddaughter of Fluwelling Jarvis Smith. We are both still Jarvis descendants... and Edward Rutledge Smith the third child of Mary Ann Jarvis and Daniel Smith carries the Rutledge name, and a direct descendant provided the DNA.
Your second sentence on your reply to me is what really excited me.You said that Isaac Jarvis married Effalina RUTLEDGE.Where did you find this information, and If I may ask what documentation you have.I have for years longed to get more information on Rutledge Line and who Effalina was, but have never thought to put that as her last name. .Fluwelling Jarvis Smith (named after her father and, Edward Rutledge named after her mother???..Hannah Eliza, both names appear in the Jarvis Genealogy...
Given that Mary Ann Jarvis named after family, and I think that is rather apparent, I would say that Edward Rutledge could be a brother of Effalina or father... really look forward to working with you on all our lines...
