Indeed very interesting read!
I'm wondering if my Rutherford may well come from some of the lines mentioned, the names certainly carry through.
Any info one might add would be much appreciated.
I have a James Rutherford born about 1819 - I know this based on his age at death & his age mentioned on a passenger list.
From his wife's death certificate I know that he married a Sarah Gillies in 1839 at Sandholes presbyterian church.
On the passenger list it say's that he comes from "Cookstown" Tyrone, it also said that he was the son of a John & Margaret Rutherford & that when he left Ireland in 1841 they were both deceased.
In 1841 they took their 14 month old son named ROBERT WILLIAM RUTHERFORD with them & headed for Australia on a ship named the "Elizabeth" as part of a immigration scheme in which they were paid to come out and use their skills to help settle area's - he was listed as a "carpenter" and by 1843 was in New Zealand.
They went on to have more children - the one's I know were named:
ELIZABETH ANN RUTHERFORD
WILLIAM SAMUEL RUTHERFORD
His wife's parents were Robert Gillies & Elizabeth Black - Also from the same area...Dungannon, Rock etc.
See how the names carry down....do you think he may come from one of these families mentioned? If so I wonder if I can link his parents John & Margaret?
Cheers
