Hi Lois,
I have a copy of the documents pertaining to the Edgarston/Hunthill estates from the suit of John Rutherford, the 2nd son of John the Cock of Edgarston/Hunthill claiming the title, honour and dignity of Lord Baron Rutherford. This info was taken from the House of Lords and is 9 pages long. According to these papers the title of Lord Rutherford was supposed to decend from the nearest male line only when the oldest sons male heirs failed the second son tried to prove that his linage granted him the titles. John the cock of Edgarston/Hunthill already held the laird/clan chief title through inheiritance ( my mistake ), several Rutherfords held title although it has been questioned as to their right to use the title, one was a Capt John Rutherford and the 2nd was William Rutherford both had voted in the house of lords. These are or were part of the suits over the title and estates.
Didn't someone a short time ago claim thatthe wife of James Stuart of Traquire rushed into that marriage to him? I have all these records and while browsing through them found that Katherine Rutherford wife and widow of James Stuart of Traquire was forced into the marriage and then held captive by some of James friends. I may try and find time to post the whole thing sometime.
