Sir Walter Scott's mother - true or fiction
Another story has come down through the ages.....
That Sir Walter Scott's mother was a RUTHERFORD (I think that this is proven). The story goes on that, as a young girl, she became very ill and was declared dead by her father who was a Doctor in Edinburgh. She was buried and, that night, grave robbers dug her up to get the jewelry that she was wearing. It was a custom in those days to bury one's jewelry with the person.
When they couldn't get her ring off, they started to cut her finger off and she arose and screamed.Persons living nearby heard it and came to her rescue....and she later lived to marry Sir Walter SCOTT's father and was Walter'smother.
IS THIS TRUE or SOMEONE'S IMAGINATION OR TALL STORY????
