How marvelous you have the privilege of driving thru Virginia. It is a Beautiful State.
You will note my posting did not include any of my own words. It was a true copy of the article as found in the VIRGINIA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY, Vol. 18, {Jan 10}, No 1, pgs 40-44.
If one wishes to find the location of Cubb Creek in Virginia you can go to the USGS, National Mapping Information and have it pinpointed for you.http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/Maphttp://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/Map.This service by the United States Government is fantastic for a genealogist.
The map I use the most for Colonial Virginia Research is:THE STATE OF VIRGINIA from the best Authorities 1796 which is a relief map showing the mountains, the waterways, etc.
Cubb Creek headquarters in present day Charlotte Co., VA going into the north of Halifax Co., VA., empties into the Pigg River which then empties into the Roanoke River thru Halifax Co., Mecklenburg Co., and Brunswick Co. VA then into North Carolina.
From HANDY BOOK FOR GENEALOGISTS, Everton Publishers
Charlotte Co., VA was formed in 1764/5 from Lunenburg Co., VA.,
Lunenburg Co., VA was formed in 1746 from Brunswick
Brunswick Co., VA was formed in 1720-32 from Prince George, Isle of Wight & Surry.
Prince George Co., VA was formed in 1702-3 from Charles City
Charles City was formed 1634 and was an Original Shire.
Thank Goodness for a few dates to help to know where to look for the information one needs in genealogical research.
