Gary,
I've printed this out in order to study it. Speaking of which, the address you gave I am well familiar with.Three years ago, I discovered important documentation thru Mrytle Bridges webpage, the author of "Scattered Seed" and the Cumberland County, NC webpage.I've left messages on Ogletree.org, both the Ochiltree and Ogletree forums regarding the Shaws and those found in the NC Archive records which Ms. Bridges published in her book and on her webpage.Thank you for bringing it to my attention again.
To let anyone reading this know, the webpage Gary referenced is one part of the documents on the Shaws and their relations. Here are some of the rest of them if your interested, as follows:
"Descendants of Colin Shaw of Jura, Argyll, Scotland, 1720-98", revised by Myrtle Bridges, August 20th, 2003 -

The website you referenced Gary, are "The Shaw Papers". Colin Shaw emigrated from Jura, Argyllshire to NC before 1764 and was a Merchant in Cumberland County. The above website address were selected from his personal letters, agreements and memorandums found at the NC Archives.I'm sure you realize this since you gave the address!
Of further note to me, which was striking, is the location in Scotland where these Shaw's came from. Many years ago and more recently, about 2 years ago, there were disagreements regarding a book about the Ochiltree's and variants. It (book) was published many years ago, way before computers:) and so, to get to the point here, this author said that the Ochiltree's by tradition had come from the Isle of Jura in Scotland. Now that I read the documentation on the Shaw's of whom did marry into the Ochiltree family of North Carolina, I have to say, while family tradition is sometimes hard to prove, there is always a bit of truth, sometimes a lot of truth. Perhaps she might have been on the right path, seems like stone was just removed.
Now, I have a question for you Gary and any of you on the forum who might know.In your previous message #4918, you refer to a file KRD?This is the source I asked about earlier.Nevertheless, you quote from this file, Robert Rutherfurd of Bowland and issue, iiiAnne Rutherfurd who married Gideon SCHAW.My question is this:I have documents which state SCHAW as SHAW.If this is the case and I reference the above website for "Descendants of Colin Shaw of Jura, Argyll, Scotland, 1720-98".Their generation No. 1 begins with COLIN SHAW, son of Angus "SCHAW" from the Isle of Jura, Scotland.
In your "file" this is the spelling of Gideon who married Anne RUTHERURD and of which also produced Thomas "Rutherford" who was witness to the William CAMPBELL will in 1774, Cumberland Co, NC, along with Thomas OGLETREE, brother to my ancestor, John OGLETREE Sr. among others.
From the "file" data you quote, I think it's suggested by these Shaws (Schaw) and their marriage to Rutherford or Rutherfurd, along with the Shaws whose family did marry into the Hugh OCHILTREE family of Cumberland Co, NC, there is a connection and it was in NC and perhaps beagan in early Scotland. This will take some time to go thru, however, from what I've already read in my files and what you provided, this seems to be very logical at this point.
Right now, I'm swamped with work, but, when I get a break, I will gladly give this forum the info I have on these families who do connect to Rutherford and yes, Ochiltree, an Campbell among the others.
Thank you once more for the information, also the earlier reference to the journal, I look forward to reading it.
MaryJean
