**My ggg grandparents John & Helen (nee MURRAY)RUTHERFORD & family came to Australia in 1856
from Bonchester Bridge (near Hawick), Roxburghshire, firstly landing in Tasmania. They
moved up to New South Wales where John died in 1864 aged about 59 (buried at Mt Cooper,
South Manero NSW).
Some time after 1868 (possibly around 1872-4) Helen travelled to the US (to somewhere in California)

John & James were the only two who returned/remained in Australia. To the best
of our knowledge Helen & the rest of her children stayed in the US. (BTW there was
another sister, Catherine b. c 1831, who we believed died sometime between 1856 & 1864)
