Yes, Ann did marry an Atkinson, he was her first husband and they had children:
On 10 Jun 1701, Nicholas COPELAND, Charles ATKINSON, and others issued a bond to Jno. CATLETT for estate of William COPELAND. On 11 Aug 1701, Nicholas COPELAND of Essex Co., Va. to son[-in-law] and daughter, Charles and Anne ATKINSON of Essex Co., Va., 100 acres on south side of Rappahannock River bounded by William BEASLEY, John DOWER’s land. After their death, land to granddaughter, Mary ATKINSON, daughter of Charles and Ann ATKINSON. /w/ William NORTH & Thomas RAMSEY. Anne, wife of Nicholas COPELAND, relinquishes her dower rights. Essex Co., Va.
Signed:NICHOLAS (N) COPLAND
Ann married (2) Phillips.
Mary Brown is named in her grandfather's will and is apparently unmarried with no heirs at the time the will is written. Her mother is not named in the will.Nicholas may have had other children also not named.
Later, Mary Brown Rutherford and her husband sell the land that she inherited from her grandfather, facts which are stated in the deed of sale.
Nicholas had three grandchildren named Mary as his son Nicholas apparently also had a daughter named Mary who is named in Nicholas' son William's will.
I have posted Nicholas' will and other documents on the Copeland genforum.
