I've been researching my family history for more than twenty years, and I am also looking for Ruths - a Mrs Ruth who was in Dublin in 1942.
I notice that you haven't put a time or place for your query, which makes it so vague that you're unlikely to get any useful replies. I know you may not know much yourself, but you will know where he was when he married your mother, and possibly where he came from, and you will surely know roughly when he was born? I don't even know which continent you're on, but in the UK a marriage certificate will give a person's father's name and occupation - it may be worth seeing if your mother has a certificate for her marriage? Pinning down an enquiry as much as possible helps other people to reply.
