My membership in the Sons of the American Revolution has been approved using Samuel Rutan Jr as my patriot. Born in 1752 and died in 1814 in Belleville, NJ. There was another Samuel Rutan that also served in the Revolution who was born 1754 and moved to Western PA. Not the same Samuel Rutan. Also another Jacob Rutan born 1799 in Paramus, Bergen County, NJ to Abraham Rutan who has been confused with Jacob born to Samuel Rutan Jr. Samuel's Jacob is actually the one who married Elizabeth Betsey King in 1821 in Essex County and they remained there until Jacob's death in c.1834. Betsey then remarried to Ralph VanHouten.

Samuel Jr and Samuel Rutan Sr are both listed as patriots of the Revolution on a plaque located at the Nutley High School, in Nutley, Essex County, NJ

I am looking for the grave site for Samuel Rutan 1752-1814 in the Belleville, Essex County, NJ area. Some people believe he might be buried in a parking lot at a Chemical Factory on Verona St in Belleville, NJ, that was once the burial grounds for the Coeyman Family of Belleville, NJ. Peter Coeyman married one of Samuel's daughters.
