Hi Mr. Keegan,

I have searched your information meticulously and have yet to find the answer I am looking for. In return, I hope I have found something of interest to you on this James.

My Question- My father was adopted at age 2. We have re-esteblished relations with our family (Rutan). Not having a heritage all our lives, you can imagine how excited we might be to know our history. I have spent many hours etc. researching, including all of your info.

I believe it is possible that we have a full family tree with extensions to someone you have yet to research. But, it is also true that I just haven't found the correct link. You need not repeat the info going back to Abraham B. or Claude.

I am requesting information on Abraham Rutan who married Elizabeth (Scales) around 1855-60? Our history shows that Abraham was (b. Oct 30, 1830-d. Aug 20, 1917). Elizabeth (b. feb 8, 1840-Apr 3 1898). This information is engraved on their headstones in Southerland Cemetary in Indiana, between jackson and bartholemew Counties. Our line is as Follows- Abraham (mar. Scales), son is James Buford (b 1877), son is James Earnest (b. 1917), James Marion (My dad). Our name would be Rutan. From Abraham to my son are 6 generations, unless you have one that we missed in the gap. From Abraham to Claudin would be another 8.

We have been trying to make the link to Samuel Rutan (b 1754) but haven't bridged the gap. Our cousin who has done research says we come from John, Samuels son. But, even in your information I can not find Abraham born to John (who married Jane Davis 1818, and Suzannah Meek After 1839) both in Washington Co, PA. It is said that over a few generations this line moved from NJ to PA to Ohio to Indiana. Abraham supposedly was born in the Chillicothe, OH area and moved to around "Spraytown, IN" around 1868 where he married Elizabeth (though apparently she was also born in Ohio). Can you help?

On Your matter of James. I only found this tidbit.
"Mary Predmore (b 10 oct 1793, Newton, Sussex Co., New Jersey, d. 4 Apr 1872) d/o Joseph Predmore and Margaret Harker, Married James Rutan, 15 Nov 1817.

Also, and article from a New Jersey Newspaper, "James Rutan, a shoemaker, who came from Asbury to Clinton this Spring, died very suddenly of heart disease last Monday. He leaves a family. " May 8, 1877, Vol. xxxix, No. 37, Whole No. 2014. You can find this at "mywebpages.comcast.net/newjersey/News/jan/1877.htm"

I hope to hear from you soon. It would help me sleep a little better at night if you have the link. If so, I can purchase your CD's for more details and biographies.
