Dear Alison,
I am almost positive that the Elizabeth Russum for whom you are looking was a daughter of Price Russom and his first wife, Elizabeth Weden. They had a daughter named Elizabeth and my mother's aunt who was recalling the family members had said that she married "a Bly."
I do think that this is she, and Aunt "Sis" just remembered the way the name sounded to her, not how it was actually spelled.
Price and Elizabeth had 3 sons and 4 daughters before Elizabeth died.(Andrew, Oliver, Roland, Margaret, Pollie (or maybe she was called "Kitty"), Betsy, and Melie (married "a Hammond".)
Price Russom remarried to Polly Whitworth. After Price Russom died in 1816, I think that his widow married Fleming Shoemaker. Two of the Russom girls, sisters of Elizabeth Russom Blythe also married men named Shoemaker and I believe that I found some of them over in Alabama about that time. (Polly Whitworth Russom had one son by Price Russom. His name was Winston Price Russum and I recall that I found him in Alabama and then later in Mississippi.)(I think his descendants spell the name with "u", butdescendants of Oliver, Roland and Andrew used the "o" spelling of the name.)
I am descended from Oliver Russom, brother of Elizabeth Russom Blythe. The Russom boys, Oliver, Roland and Andrew moved from the Franklin/Madison Co. area of Georgia to the western part...Chattooga Co., Paulding Co. , and Andrew eventually died over in Cherokee Co., Ala.
I am not sure when the Shoemakers and Elizabeth Russom went to Alabama, but I recall that I found the Russom-Blythe marriage and felt that it must be "our " Betsy.
I do not have any information about any descendants of her.
If you have any information I would really like to have it.
I did much research a long time ago, and I still do a little from time to time.
Right now my husband is recuperating from lung surgery and although I am VERY busy attending to his needs, I am still very anxious to help (and to be helped) with family information.
A little bit more about Price Russom and Elizabeth Wedon: They were both born in Maryland (according to the census record of their son Andrew who lived past the1880- census when parents' birthplaces were recorded)
They were married in Guilford Co., N.C. in 1798 and then were in Franklin Co., GA at least by 1801.That area later became a part of Madison Co., GAI think all their children were born in that area.
(I am fairly sure that Elizabeth Weedon's father was Roland Weedon who also went to GA from N.C. and from whom the given name "Roland" has been passed down in our family..as has the name "Oliver."I have a cousin, still alive, whose name is Thomas Oliver Mallory. His father was Thomas Oliver Sr. named for his grandfather Oliver Russom.)
