I descend from John M. Russom. This may not answer your question, but on John M. Russom's Civil War Muster Roll is the following: All three show 18th Cav. Tenn.

1. Pvt., Co. B, Newsom's Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry; To May 7, 1864; Enlisted April 1, Jackson Tenn by R. M. May for war;

2. Pvt. B, Newsom's Regiment, Tennessee Calvary; May 10 to June 30, 1864; Enlisted April 1; Jackson Tenn by R. M. May;
Transfered to Capt Dicks Co. G June 17.

3. 5 Sgt (2d) Co. G, Newsom's Regiment, Cavalry; May 10 to June 30, 1864; Enlisted April 10, Rose Creek Tenn by Thos J. Dick;

Apparently he started out in Co. B and transferred to Co. G one month later. This is probably also what happened to Henry Clay Russom and may be the reason they are shown twice.

I would like to share and trade Russom information with you.
