NEIL 'BING' RUSSELL b. 1926 Brattleboro, VT. d. California April 8, 2003. Obituary. Actor and father of actor KURT RUSSELL
I was recently contacted by someone wondering if KURT RUSSELL was related to me via my RUSSELL lines. I had no idea and still don't. I did some GOOGLE searching and found that his father had died this year and was a DARTMOUTH grad about the time both my uncles (both RUSSELLs) were and were business majors as well. I would be interested in learning if this RUSSELL line connects with mine or just what the ancestry is. Here is the obituary I found.
Neil "Bing" Russell 1926-2003
Bing Russell, 76, of Thousand Oaks, California, died at his home on April 8, 2003. He was born in Brattleboro, VT on May 5th, 1926. The only son of Warren (Bud) and Ruth V. Russell, he attended Rangeley Schools and graduated in 1944. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1947, majoring in Business Administration. Later, Bing attended Springfield College in MA and received two degrees: one in Education and the other in Physical Education. He graduated in 1951. In 1946, Bing married Louise Crone of Newport, N.H.
In 1954, Bing and his family moved to CA. He then became an actor and appeared in movies and on television. He played the deputy sheriff on the popular television show Bonanza.
Baseball also played a big part in Bing's life, as he played professional baseball in Carrollton, GA; he coached Little League Baseball, and owned a professional baseball team in El Paso, TX, and later another professional team in Portland, OR. In later years, he closely followed his grandson Matt Franco's career in baseball, which gave him great pleasure.
Bing and his wife Lou enjoyed spending their summers in Rangeley.
Bing's father, Warren (Bud) Russell predeceased him.
Surviving him are his wife Louise, his mother Ruth and his sister Joan Philbrick: his daughters Jill and husband Bill Hall, Jamie and husband Rick Way, Jody and husband Jack Philbrick; and his son Kurt and Goldie Hawn. Also surviving him are his cousin Frieda and husband Ken Dahne, who were as close to him as a sister and brother, and eleven grandchildren and two nephews.
