"Here lies interred the body of James Russell, Esqr., son of Richard Russell and Maud his wife, who was born in this town October 4, 1640, and was elected Counsellor for the Colony in the year 1680. Note: On Tuesday, 6th of December, 1763, departed this life the Honorable Daniel Russell, Esq., who for upwards of twenty years was a member of His Majesty's Council for the Province. He was Treasurer of Middlesex County for more than fifty years, in the discharge of which office such was his conscientious fidelity and unsullied integrity as procured him universal approbation and esteem in public and private life; his whole conduct was such as evidently showed his invariable desire and endeavor to preserve a conscience void of offence toward God and man, and by the rectitude of his behaviour to adorn and recommend the holy religion, which he professed, and to approve himself to the all-searchign eye of the Father of spirits; his memory is greatly honored by all who were acquainted with him, in whose esteem he was that noblest work of God, an honest man.
It is observable that in the several offices which he sustained he succeeded his worthy father and grandfather, both of whom held and discharged the same for a great number of years with unspotted reputation. He was 78 years of age.

From the Records of Mrs. Grace Russell Pasco:
Seth Russell, son of Johnathan and Elizabeth Russell and son-in-law of Peter Parker was born in Ira, Vermont in 1791. He married Lavina Parker and was the father of at least eight children. In 1812 he enlisted and served in Captain Micah Brown's Company, a unit of Colonel Martindale's Regiment. He served 2 months and 14 days, beginning Sept. 17, to Dec. 1, 1812. In his late years he was granted a pension of $8.00 per month, pension certificate No. 6661. His pension was first issued on Oct. 19, 1871.
In the year 1846, Seth's son-in-law, Cephas Clark and his wife Mercy, moved from Vermont to Minerva, New York, and bought 450 acres of land. One year later, in 1847, Seth and his wife moved from Bird's Eye, Vermont to a grant of 100 acres given to him by the Governor of New York. Seth would be about 55 years old at this time. In 1855, Seth had four acres improved plus 60 head of stock, mostly sheep no doubt.
Seth and his family belonged to the Baptist Church in Minerva. For some reason he became dissatisfied so he and 12 others took their letters from that church and he, being a carpenter, built a church in North Creek. It would seem that he was a deeply religious person. Any one that would leave one church and build another must have quite strong convictions.
We have a letter written by Seth to his son Heman dated Dec. 27, 1869; a letter of sympathy for the loss of Heman's son, George, who was in bed 11 years with T.B. of the bones. The letter follows:
"Dec. the 27, 1869. Dear son I now sit me down to write a few lines to you to let you know that I am well and that all the rest are well. hope in that these few line swill find you well and all the rest I received your letter the 24 and i was glad to here that you was well the news of the deth of George was not supprsing because we have expected it every time we have heard from there we feel to simpathise with you in the loss of his company but we think that our loss is his gain he has been a poor suferer for many years It has pleased god to take him home to rest where suffering will be more. Therefore we ought to be reconciled to the will of god I think that I shall be out there in the spring after the ground gets settled if my health is good as it is now give my respects to all of your folks Cyrus and Seymoure and all inquireing friends now I will close my letter for I can not think of any thing more to write so good by

NoteHeman first married Amy Slantee (a Native American of the Seneca tribe), his second marriage was to Jane UNKNOWN and his
third was to Mahala Clark. Amy Slantee was the mother of at least one of Heman's children, Edward, direct ancestor of B. Dunkley, daughter of Kate RUSSELL Harrington, who researched this branch of the RUSSELL family tree, address unknown.
Seneca Queries: Comment: In Johnsburgh, NY vital records my Great-Great Grandfather Hemen-census shows Herman RUSSELL married to Amy SLANTEE-full blooded Seneca Indian. Also my Great-Grandfather their son's obituary from NY states his mother Amy SLANTEE a Seneca Indian-but don't have this obit unable to find on-line. She and HERMAN/HEMEN are buried somewhere in Castleton, Rutland County, Vermont. I have membership to Ancestry.com but unable to find info regarding any of her relatives and not found on any Native American Indian rolls thus far.

I am a descendant of Jonathan Russell b. around 1759-1760 and Elizabeth, through their son Seth, b. in 1791 and his wife Lavinia Parker. So my descent is: Jonathan, Seth, Heman, Harrison, Erwin, Dewey, Leona (my mother). My grandfather Dewey was from the Vermont area and moved over into Whitehall, Washington County, NY right on the border of NY and VT. I have information on the children of Seth and their birth dates, Heman's children and their birth dates and Harrison's children with their birth and death dates. If anyone needs more information on these branches they can e-mail me. I am interested of course in finding out further information on Lavinia Parker and her family and tracing back further on Jonathan.
