RUSSELL, Graham MacMillan
RUSSELL, Graham MacMillan - 68, Middleton, passed away suddenly on December 29, 2004, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by his children. Born in Malay Falls, Halifax Co., he was the son of the late Orestus and Alveretta (MacDonald) Russell. Graham spent his career in the Canadian Armed Forces. He joined the Armoured Corps in 1957. He served in the 8th Canadian Hussar and Lord Strathcona Horse Royal Canadians. He was stationed in CFB Gagetown, Borden, Germany, Petawawa, Calgary, Cyprus and Cornwallis. He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces as a Sergeant. During his career, Graham instructed on the Centurion Tank and also instructed recruits in Cornwallis. He was decorated with the United Nations Medal (Cyprus) and Canadian Forces' Decoration and Clasp. He will be remembered by his comrades as being an excellent gunner on the Centurion Tank. On retirement in 1977, Graham and his family moved to Margaretville. He loved the outdoor life and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed golf, hockey and fastball. In recent years, he was a member of the Centurion Club - a retired group of service personnel that meet in Port Hawkesbury once a year. Surviving are daughters, Karen "Rita" Russell, Middleton; Lorna Marie (Albert) Spencer, Forest Glade; sons, Kevin Graham (Monique), Ottawa, Ont.; Wade Martin, Middleton; sisters, Ivy McFarlen, Westville; Claris Cruickshank and Phyllis Martin, both of Malay Falls; Carol (Norman) Legacy, Bathurst, N.B.; brother, Kenneth, Havre Boucher; grandchildren, Amos, Danny, Chantelle, Stephanie, Jaxon and Sarah. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marie May Melanson; infant son, Roger; infant granddaughter, Carolyn; sisters, Hellen, Wilma, Lillian, Wanda; brothers, Lloyd, Clyde, Elmer and Earl. Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, Rev. Vaughn Henshaw officiating. Interment in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. Donations to a charity of choice.
