June:
I don't know if this applies to your research, but I found a reference to Andrew Russ in a 1691/2 ("Proved 12 September 1692") will of Joseph Horbin. He may or may not be in the line you are interested.I think he is a brother to one of the guys in my line, i.e., one of the Johns but I have not checked that out prior to writing this reply.
However, Horbin references that Andrew is "on my plantation in Carolina".
If he was bequeathed him anything--and it is not real clear in the context of today's understanding--it was either an interest in some property on a Tudor Street in Bridgetown (possibly in Jamaica) or it is an interest along with his son and daughter in maybe "one half of a plantation in Jamaica and in my plantation in South Carolina."
It seems to me if this was a conveyance of some of the real estate, it could have been motivation enough for some of the rest of the family to head south.
I found this on page 420 of The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. LXVII, 1913 published by the New England Genealogical Society.
