Rusk brothers that came to Pendleton, SC from Ireland
My Great-Great-Grandfather, David Rusk, came to Pendleton, SC in approx. 1790 with his two brothers, John Rusk and James Thomas Rusk.John stayed in Pendleton, David moved to Georgia and James Thomas settled in Illinois. The attendance at our annual reunions in Woodstock, GA have been dwindling, so we decided to try to have a larger one in Pendleton, in hopes that more of those descendants of the three brothers would be interested in attending.Brother John was, apparently, a very accomplished stonemason. He was responsible for the construction of many stuctures in the area, of which about six are still standing. The most notable example is the Old Stone Church, built in the early 1800's.It has been restored and is next to a cemetery that is still in use.
The reunion is scheduled for September 17, 18 and 19.We have many activities planned, including a lot of "meeting and greeting".Local historians are being lined up to bring us up-to-date on the Rusk Family impact on the Pendleton area.If you or if you know of anyone that is related to these three brothers, please let me know. Our reunion website is www.2010ruskreunion.com.Please check it out for some of the details. Our primary website is www.rusks.org.
Since we are not limiting our invitations to direct descendants of the the three brothers and if you would like to attend, please following the instructions on the website and let us know to expect you.We will have a lot of fun.
Herb Rusk
