I tried emailing the posters who originally submitted this story, but they all bounced. So I hope they still come here. 1st was the story of Elizabeth Rushing who committed suicide by drinking poison. The story was that she was pregnant, but didn't want to disgrace the family so she took poison and died. Originally her brother in law, George, or Thomas Womble was charged with forcing her to drink it, but then it was decided that even though he bought the poison, she acted on her own to take it and he was released. I'm wondering who the baby's father was, as it was also noted that while Elizabeth wasn't retarded, she wasn't of normal intelligence and was easily influenced. 2nd is my search for a slave named Harriet. Up until now the only story I heard about her was that she came with Hogan and Francis Allen when they left North Carolina and ended up in Arkansas. Cousin Florence related a story that they were not socially equal, that either the Rushings didn't approve of Hogan, or the Allen's didn't approve of Francis, and that's why they left the state. However I recently found a deed online that listed Harriet as a gift from Jesse Rushing to Hogan Allen right around the time he and Francis got married. I find no further information on Harriet after that. She may have been called Hattie, and I'm not sure if she started using the Allen name or kept Rushing -or even took on a completely different name. Notify Administrator about this message?
