"Croft "or John Darling Rushing

My grandfather, Ray Rushing (B:1907 D:1991), always called his great grandfather "Croft Rushing" but all the research I have ever found was that his name was John Darling (B: 1799 son of Phillip J.). Has anyone ever heard of a "Croft" Rushing from Western Tennessee?
