I am doing the census records of Benedicta, Maine.... this area is loaded with the Rush family.... but my questions are these ... in the 1880 census that I am copying now I find that the Rush family came from HANOVER ... it just says HANOVER... is this Hanover, Germany? Also, found a SMITH family from Alsace ..... In 1810 was Alsace part of Germany? Is this a region or a city. ? Hope you can clear this up for me... thank you...
