Hi, Carol ...
I am just now starting some genealogy research on the Rule side of my family. I'm curious as to whether your John Rule of 1719 might be a long ago relation.
My extremely limited knowledge of my family is much more recent. My father is Stephen Whiting Rule, born in St. Louis MO in March 1936. Lived most of his life in Boston, attended South Kent High School and Bowdoin College.
His brothers are Thomas Rule (middle name and DOB unknown at this stage of the game) and Clinton "Tony" Rule (no middle name), born 9/9/1927, moved to Boston in late 1936, early 1937. Attended University of Wisconsin (entered for the 1942-43 year at 15 years old).
My grandfather is John Thomas Rule II, born in St. Louis MO in 1900, married in 1/1925 in Cambridge to Victoria Helen "Bobbie" Clinton Whiting, born in England. He attended MIT and at some stage in his life (after 1937) he was the Dean of Students at MIT. He lived in St. Louis prior to attending MIT. He returned to STL after college, until going there to teach and Dean of Students.
His father was Judge Virgil Rule, born 1870 and married to Estelle Johnson.
Does any of this match up with what you have for your John Rule of 1719? You mention in your original posting of March 2010 "new.familysearch.org". Are there other "favorite" genealogy sites that I should haunt?
