johann georg ruhl/rule book dated 1771
I am a descendent of George Rule and Mary Menker.Last year my great uncle died and among his possessions we found a very old book in German. It also has an inscription in German. The book itself is a prayerbook by Johann Starck published in 1769.I had a friend transcribe and translate the inscription, which is the text of another prayer published in the 16th century and used by Bach in one of his cantatas. At the end of this prayer was written the name Johann Georg Ruhl and the date May 26, 1771.On the inside of the other cover were the words "birth book of Rosina Ruhlen".The -en ending on Ruhl was, to my understanding, a feminine gender marking.
My question is this:could this be the George and Rosanna (Shipley) Rule that I've read so much about?Does anyone know or have any theories about this?
I would appreciate any clues that anyone has.
