I don't know the definitive answer but would add the following evidence:
The first will book of Augusta County lists:Peter Roughenough qualifies administrator of Abraham Strickler, with sureties 14 April 1746. On April 14, 1746 "Abraham Strickler's widow" refuses to administer estate. With her maiden name reported as Ruffner, the administrator is likely a brother or dad to her. On April 19 Abraham's inventory is appraised. This Peter is also called Rufnaugh or Rufnaught in other records in will book and is noted as of county Orange.
