Hi Belinda, Thanks for responding to me so quickly! It's great to hear that you've heard of Dock. I'm sure that there are probably other relatives' names that I've come across that you may also have heard of. I also recognize a lot of those county names, but haven't visited them since I was very young. Whynot is definitely one of the places that my dad and his brother talked about more than others (how can you forget a name like that?). I have found quite a lot of information on ancestry.com. I think you have to pay a membership, but it has been worth it for me. You just have to try lots of different spellings of names because sometimes the transcribers can't read the census takers' handwriting! I was able to trace Dock's family back to his grandfather Redick Ruffin, my GGgrandfather. Also, Virginia Crilley from the Rootsweb.com site has been very helpful in finding census info on Ruffins (mostly White, but also Black) as she has done extensive research. She has her own "Ruffin" page -- http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/6276/. I'd love to chat more. You can reach me at my email reneeruffin@gmail.com and then we can connect by phone, if you would like. Looking forward to talking to you, cousin! :-) Renee Renee Notify Administrator about this message?
