Hello Jayne:
I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
Note 4 - Microfilms of parish church rcds are kept by the National Library of Ireland (NLI).
For Pat(rick) Ruddy B 1865 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Mayo, with a father forenamed Pat(rick), I found 5 rcds: 1863, 2-1866, and 2-1867.
For Mic(hael) Ruddy B 1863 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1863, Oughaval RC parish.
For Maria Ruddy B 1865 +/- 4 yrs, ditto, I found a rcd for a Maria-Ann in 1862, but not in Louisburgh CP.
For Mary Mullaghy M 1861 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Mayo, I found 2 rcds, Hollymount CP, and Kilcommon & Robeen RC parish, both in 1865.
For Pat(rick) Ruddy M ditto, I found 3 rcds, only 1 in 1865 which was a potential match to that for Mary. However, it was not a match at the parish level of detail.
For Mary Mullahy B 1844 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Mayo, with the father's forename unknown, I found 3 rcds: 1841, 1841, and 1847. Father's respective forenames were James, Patrick, and Patrick.
For Pat(rick) Ruddy B 1841 ditto, I found 3 rcds: 1841 Bellmullet, 1841 Kilmoremoy/Ballina, and 1844 ? RC parishes. Father's respective forenames were Thos, Hugh, and ?.
Most of my results are negative; either the rcds didn't survive, or haven't been transcribed yet. Suggest you wait until the database is more complete. For the Patrick and Mary B rcds, you will need an exact DOB, parent(s) name(s), and/or placename to pick which, if any, are the right ones.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
