Julie, I have Ruddells in my family and at one time I chased the Ruddell Todd family. Here is what I found---In Ballintaggart, JAMES RUDDELL probably inherited Ballintaggart from his uncle Charles Todd in 1814. He possibly added "Todd" to his name in the same year. This James Ruddell born in 1783, died in 1852 was originally an indigo planter. Later he returned to London and made a fortune in wine, hving as his partner Sir Kingston James (also an Irishman and at one time, Lord Mayor of Dublin) He married 1828 Eliza Henrietta Campbell 1807-1870 from Scotland) From 1832 -1835 he was MP for Honiton. His brother David died in Persia 1835. He also had two sisters Jane of Portadown and Sophia (Robinson) of Richmont, Portadown. The Todds were an old standing family of Dromore and Kilmore where they settled after the Willianite Wars
I can send you a few more details on this and associated families if you want it.
Regards - Jill
