John Ruddell son of Simon and Margery Ruddle?

Hello. I am researching the Ruddle family in Wiltshire. I have been trying to establish whether or not John Ruddle, baptised 24th November 1696, son of Simon and Margery Ruddle, is my ancestor. Looking a various message boards and websites, it has come to my attention that it is thought that this John Ruddle emmigrated to America. What is the evidence for this? Although I think I have ruled out the possibility that he is my ancestor, I also doubt that he emmigrated. If anyone can enlighted me, I would be very grateful.
