This is a followup to my own message! I just heard from someone in Iowa that the name was Decourcey (or Decourcy). He said he Googled the name and found a reference to Decourcey being killed in a fall from a horse - but didn't give me the reference. I tried to Google the name and found nothing.

Anyone out there have this information? It probably occurred in the early 1860s.
