What I was trying to do is get confirmation of information
posted on the internet.I do have her administrator's
bond for Richard's estate, dated July 21, 1845.There
must have been difficulties as the Sheriff became
administrator about a year later. So, they had been
married a while.Nancy's age on the census is to be taken
with a grain of salt, as she did not always age 10 years
between...
She is on the 1850 Amherst census in the household of
Thos Blank--same page as Robert Ridgeway if you're having
trouble. On the 1840, she is adjacent to Tho C Blank,
so may have been living next door. Her household had
1 female 15-19, 3 in their twenties and one in her fifties.
On April 22, 1835 Thomas and his wife Margaret deeded 6
acres to a Nancy R Smith.
Thomas and Margaret had children:George D, James A,
Caroline M, Dyson C, Mary, Parthenia, Sally, Margaret,
Silas. There was also John, not mentioned in the guardian
bond as he must have been over 21.He does have a bond
as a constable, June 17, 1872.George married Nancy-----
1857 and Margaret married Charles P Williams, a widower, in
1860s.Dyson was a corporal in the CSA and was a POW
March-June 1865.
Edwin S Rucker [a brother or uncle?] was surety, along
with Nancy when she married Thomas in 1850.
Thomas and Nancy were my gg grandparents, through their
daughter Nannie Blanks Hutcherson. She has always been
known in the family as Nanny Rucker Smith Blanks, but we
had more or less assumed the Rucker was a given name.
There is a lot of information in Blanks Family of Virginia
by John Wilson--I don't have a copy but do have some
photocopies if you need them.
