Jim Rucker was very nice to answer your questions about Tabitha Rucker.
However, please note the following: Ephraim was the son of Peter Rucker, immigrant to Virginia in 1700. The Rucker Family Society, formed in 1990, with now about 400 family memberships, can only trace back to Peter Rucker. We are going though DNA tests to try to find a relative in Europe which might help us find our lineage. I know that Jim’s suggested lineage for Peter Rucker is bouncing around the LDS internet, but it’s just not true. To find out more about the Rucker DNA testing, check out: Http.//worldfamilies.net/surnames/r/rucker
Also Tabitha’s husband was Edmund Gaines. Before the Revolutionary War, it was against British law for a person to have two Christian names. Yes, his mother was a Pendleton and he had descendants with that double name, but he did not.
Here is a little info on Tabitha’s parents:
Ephraim2 Rucker (Peter1), b. ca 1720-1725 (my guess), Essex Co., VA, d. Dec 1797 (Will), Madison Co., VA; m. Margaret Vawter, daughter of John Vawter and Margaret Noel of Essex Co., VA.
They were certainly married by May 1748, the date of Margaret’s father’s will.
Issue (not necessarily in order of birth):
1.Julius3 Rucker, d. ca 1804; unmarried. Julius was probably the oldest child and was not mentioned in his father’s Will. Julius was injured in the Revolution and his funeral expenses were paid out of his father’s estate, 16 Jun 1804.
2.Angus3 Rucker, b. ca 1753 (Richmond Enquirer); m. 1st Jane Allen; m. 2nd Mary Susanna Graves.
3.Elliott3 Rucker, b. 5 Mar 1755 (Bible record); m. Nancy Smith.
4.John3 Rucker, b. ca 1757 (Editor’s guess); m. Julianna Early.
5.Tabitha3 Rucker; m. Edmund Gaines*.
6.Tomagen3 Rucker; m. 1st Ambrose Booton; m. 2nd Augustine3 Rucker (James2, Peter1).
7.Mary3 Rucker, b. ca 1760; m. William Vawter.
8.Margaret3 Rucker, b. ca 1756 (Editor’s guess); m. 1st Armistead Minor; m. 2nd William Morgan.
