Penelope Ruby, born 1817 in North Carolina was the 2nd wife of my gggrandfather Staten Brown, born about 1799 in North Carolina, Tennessee or Virginia. Penny & Staten were married on Feb. 6, 1845 in Rush Cnty., Indiana. The 1850 Census shows the family living in Madison, Jefferson Cnty., Indiana. The 1860 Census shows Staten & Penelope Brown living in Hadley, Pike Cnty., Illinois with the following children in the home:
Cassius, age 15
John Quincy, age 11
Jessee, age10
Henry & Henryetta, age 5
Allen, age 4
The 1870 Census shows Penelope Ruby living in Bear Grove Twp., Fayette Cnty., Illinois
with an additional child. Christina who was born in 1860.
The 1830 Census shows Staten Brown living in Halifax Cnty., North Carolina with 1 adult female, probably Dicy Coffield(my gggrandmother), 5 male children and 1 female child. One of these males was William Wesley Brown(my ggrandfather) born on Jan. 9, 1823.
I believe that another son was named Sandy Brown and have no idea of the names of the other children.
During the 1830's Staten had a daughter Mary, born about 1831 and a son Andrew, born about 1837.
Does anyone know if Staten Brown passed away in Fayette Cnty., Illinois? Does anyone have any information on the above mentioned family members or their descendents? I can't find a trace of Staten Brown after 1860 with the exception of my ggrandfather William Wesley Brown. Does anyone know the names of any cemeteries in or near Bear Grove Twp? Any help and/or leads will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
