Mac software

I have a very old version of Generations program which I dearly loved, and have now converted to a Mac. I'm considering new software, and wonder if Reunion 9.0 is the best one? I tried FTM but didn't like it, and want to use a program as close to Generations as possible. If I use this should I order the program, or just download it from the provider site? I suppose once you download the program, you can save it to a disc or jump drive. Has anyone downloaded this program with success. This program isn't cheap, and I wonder if the extra for the "boxed disc" is essential.
