Can't open FTM (3.? ) files in old I Mac (OS Extended), both about 10 yrs old) to make Ged Com files for "Import/Export" to new" Reunion" genealogy softwear on new I Mac. I did successfully make trial Ged Com files and exported to new Reunion on new I Mac via an External Zip Drive, but then problems began. I had a family file open and somehow clicked on something ? and the file dissappeared all except the top bar. In trying to get it back, bar was gone too. Upon re-opening the files, one is now is named for one family, but the contents are for a different family! Don't know if that had anything to do with it, but when I clicked on "Import /Export", the box with the family files in it is GREY and they won't open.
I am told by the person on the phone with FTM support that they do not support my old FTM at all!, and suggested I post with FTM Message boards. I did that and they referred me to these Reunion Boards. So here I am pleading for help!
Also, I have a copy of my complete FTM on a zip disc. I think it may be one that was made before the problems. I have not tried to import it back into my old Mac to see if the files could be opened in "Import/Export" and the Ged Com files made. I am cautious about doing this. Or, could the FTM copy be exported to somewhere else see if is OK and to make Ged Com files? If I understand correctly, this can't be done in the Reunion softwear, It has to be done BEFORE it is imported into Reunion? Right?
I hope there is an answer somewhere. Like everyone else, no one wants to re-copy thousands of names!!! Thank you for listening.
