GEDCOM (Genealogical Data Communications)is a standard file format for exchanging information between genealogy programs. Hopefully the CD you received with your genealogy information was done with GEDCOM format, and if so, you should be able to upload it from the CD into a genealogy software program you would have on your computer. I have an idea that if you are having trouble doing this, it is because the CD was made from a PC and you are trying to read it into your MAC.

If you decide to purchase FTM genealogy software, be sure you are getting the latest version available. A new one just came out recently. I'm not sure what the version is, but think it might be FTM 2006. Just buy the software program. All the extra genealogy "information" they try to get you to buy is worthless 95% of the time. The software cost may be $29.95 or $39.95. Don't try to download it, but be sure you get the CD. I think you said you had a PC available and I would recomend you get a PC version of FTM and put it on your PC, unless your PC is an old one. Let FTM know what operating system you have. You might talk to them about getting their MAC version too.
