In Reply to: Roper or Rozer - Origins of the Rozer Family in NC by William Alexander Roper, Jr. of 163

William,

I've found the following deed abstracts:

Edgecombe Co., NC, DB 2, p. 300, 14 Nov 1754: “Thomas Bradford Sr. and Mary his wife of Northampton Co. to John Rozar of Edge. Co. £100. 135 acres on south side of Roanoke river joinning Ogilbie, Chekeott creek, Danbe and the sd Rozar; all houses, etc. Wit: David Rozar, Mary Norwood, Mary Bradford. Aug Ct. 1755.”

Halifax Co., NC, DB 9, p. 58, 10 Feb 1764: “John Rozar of Sussex Co., VA, to Francis Reding (Redden) of Halifax Co. £100. 135 acres on south side of Roanoke River, joining Ogilvie, Chockiat Creek, Dawsey. Wit: Francis Reding Sr., W. Reding. Apr Ct 1764.”

Question: Is "John Rozar" of Edgecombe Co., NC / Sussex Co., VA, the same person as John ROSSER who d. c. 1775, Brunswick Co., VA?

John Rosser of Brunswick has the following (abbreviated) time line:

10 May 1728: Thomas Weeks of Prince George Co. to John Rosser of same. [Surry Co., VA, DB/WB 7, p. 803]

6 Jun 1733: John Rook of North Carolina to John Roser of Southwark Parish in Surry Co. [Brunswick Co. VA, DB/WB 1, p. 49]

15 Apr 1747: Richard Tomlinson to John Rosser. [Surry Co., VA, DB 5, p. 34]

14 Dec 1748: Thomas Cook of St. Andrew Parish in Brunswick Co. to John Rosse [sic] of Albemarle Parish in Surry Co. [Brunswick Co., VA, DB 3, p. 289]

17 Oct 1749: John Rosser and wife, Elizabeth Rosser, of Albemarle Parish to William Bagley of same. [Surry Co., VA, DB 6, p. 14]

12 Jul 1754: Simon Lane Sr. & his wife Mary of Maherrin Parish in Brunswick Co. to John Rosser of same. [Brunswick Co., VA, DB 5, p. 585]

9 Jun 1762: Drury Cooke of Meherrin Parish in Brunswick Co. to John Rosser of sd. parish. [Brunswick Co., VA, DB 7, p. 152]

The Brunswick Co. land of John Rosser apparently fell into Greensville Co., VA, when that county was formed and I haven't done any Greensville Co. research.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
